Variety, mostly. Nothing is most boring than monomaniacal blogs that focuse in essentially one thing.
Secondly, Originality. A blog should contain something one cannot easily find elsewhere.
Third, personality. A blog should reveal the character and sensibility of the blogger.
That's why citations are to be kept into a reasonable limit.
